Getting a Good Night’s Sleep with the Simba Hybrid® Mattress Original

Did you know the average person spends a 1/3 of their day in bed? This means if you live until the age of 75, you will have spent 25 years asleep! That’s why having a good mattress is so important.

Over the last year or so I have struggled with my sleep on and off. I go through periods of waking several times a night because I feel stiff and sore which means I have to get out of bed and this results in a lot of disturbed sleep. I recently found out that a mattress should be changed every 8-10 years and knowing my mattress was around 9 years old, I began to wonder if that was causing my disturbed sleep. Recently the lovely people over at Simba got in touch to ask if I would like to review their Hybrid® Mattress Original, I was excited to see what the mattress had to offer and to see if it would ease my sleep woes.

If you’ve ever tried moving a king size mattress, you will know this is no easy feat, they’re heavy and difficult to manoeuvre so the thought of having to not only take my old mattress downstairs and bring the new one upstairs filled me with some trepidation. What I didn’t know was that Simba takes all of the hard work out of the process, leaving me to relax and simply enjoy my new mattress. Not only did they bring the mattress to the room of my choosing but they can also removed the old mattress to be recycled if you add this service onto your purchase.

When the mattress arrived I was surprised to find that it was in a box… The mattress arrived vaccum packed and in a small box considering it had a king size mattress inside. The process of of opening the mattress is straight forward, I simply used a pair of scissors and carefully cut the plastic wrapping which then began the process of the mattress unwravelling. I would suggest doing this while the mattress is on your bed frame so you don’t have to move it after it has unwravelled.

After the mattress has grown to it’s full size it is important to leave the mattress to fully expand for around 6 hours. After this period it will be fully expanded and ready to enjoy.

I will be honest and say that I didn’t know my mattress should be rotated regularly, but with the Simba Hybrid mattress it is advised to rotate the mattress regularly to prolong the life of the mattress.

I have now had the Simba mattress for a little while and so far I have found it has helped with my sleep and I’m not waking up during the night feeling uncomfortable. The Hybrid Mattress Original is a medium-firm mattress which is perfect for me, it’s supportive and comfortable making for a great night’s sleep.

A great night’s sleep with the Hybrid Original shouldn’t be a surprise considering it is their original ground-breaking Hybrid which uses top of the range patented tech and has over 1/2 a million happy customers. The mattress has the highest spring count of the Comfort range to help support spinal alignment and relieve pressure. The foam base features nine support zones which are designed to mirror the body, this means it offers great body alignment support. It’s also designed for cooler sleep thanks to the extra deep layer of Simbatex® foam which allows more airflow.

Simba really have thought of everything when it comes to the Hybrid Mattress Original, it even has a removable zip-off top for easy washing or replacing meaning the mattress can stay fresh and clean no matter what. The mattress also comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Now all that’s left is to relax and enjoy a good night’s sleep!

If you’re struggling with your sleep but you don’t need a new mattress, then why not try some of the following tips for a better night’s sleep.

Top tips for a good night’s sleep

Achieving a good night’s sleep is essential for overall health and well-being, but it can often feel elusive due to stress, lifestyle habits, or environmental factors. Here are some top tips to help you enhance your sleep quality and wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

1. Establish a Regular Sleep Schedule

Consistency is key for a good night’s sleep. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your body’s internal clock and can help you fall asleep and wake up more easily.

2. Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine

Develop a relaxing routine before bed to signal to your body that it’s time to wind down. This could include activities such as reading a book, taking a warm bath, practicing gentle yoga, or listening to calming music. Avoid stimulating activities such as checking emails or engaging with social media.

3. Optimize Your Sleep Environment

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary for sleep. Keep the room cool, quiet, and dark. Invest in a comfortable mattress and pillows, and consider using blackout curtains, eye masks, and earplugs to block out light and noise. The ideal temperature for sleep is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius).

4. Limit Exposure to Screens

The blue light emitted by screens on smartphones, tablets, and computers can interfere with your ability to fall asleep. Try to avoid these screens for at least an hour before bedtime. If you need to use these devices, consider settings or apps that minimize blue light exposure in the evening.

5. Watch Your Diet

What and when you eat can affect your sleep. Avoid large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bedtime, as they can disrupt sleep. Caffeine can stay elevated in your blood for 6-8 hours. Instead, opt for a light snack if you’re hungry, such as yogurt or a banana, which can promote sleep.

6. Exercise Regularly

Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper sleep. However, timing is important. Try to finish any vigorous exercise a few hours before bedtime, as it can boost your energy levels and raise your body temperature, making it harder to fall asleep.

7. Manage Stress and Anxiety

Stress and worry can make it difficult to fall asleep. Consider relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or progressive muscle relaxation to manage anxiety and prepare your body for sleep. Keeping a journal to jot down thoughts or worries before bedtime can also help clear your mind.

8. Consider Sleep Aids Carefully

While sleep aids can be helpful for short-term sleep disturbances, they’re not a long-term solution and can sometimes lead to dependency or side effects. Always consult with a healthcare provider before starting any sleep medication. Natural supplements such as melatonin or valerian root may also be considered, but their effectiveness varies from person to person.

9. Get Daylight Exposure

Natural light, especially in the morning, helps to regulate your body’s sleep-wake cycle. Try to get outside in natural sunlight for at least 30 minutes a day. If natural sunlight is not an option, artificial bright light devices can be used as a substitute.

10. See a Professional if Needed

If you consistently struggle to fall asleep, maintain sleep, or if you feel persistently tired during the day, consider consulting a sleep specialist. There could be an underlying sleep disorder that needs addressing.

Incorporating these tips into your daily routine can significantly improve your sleep quality. Remember, sleep is just as critical to health as diet and exercise, and taking steps to improve your sleep pays dividends for your overall quality of life.
